N22 Inflammatory bowel disease nursing in Italy: the experience of the Academic Hospital of Udine

Abstract Background Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are a group of conditions characterized by chronic inflammation the digestive tract. IBDs can lead to extraintestinal manifestations that concern articulations, skin, liver, kidneys and eyes. Given complexity diseases, patient affected IBD monitored multi-disciplinary team whose nurse becomes one main figure. In 2018, University Udine fostered post-graduate education programme called “IBD case manager”, with aims a) promote high standards clinical practice research initiatives; b) educate active members professional network both at national international level. Methods A retrospective observational study has been conducted in 2022. All patients who attended clinic for administration biological therapy, gastroenterological visits, training subcutaneous therapy administration, follow-up studies (also via calls and/or emails) were included. Descriptive statistic used describe activity from 2018 2021 Results From 1st January 31st December 2021, total 1,114 (47% females; average age 45 years) admitted clinic. Outpatient visits 701 679 2019, while 639 during COVID-19 pandemic 2020 708 2021; there was an increase 11% activities. The number drug administrations increased 35% (n=353) 2019 (n=475); also, these endovenous therapies not modified (n=487, +3%) (n=476, -3%). sessions decreased 15% (n=30) (n=26); then, 34% (n=35) 135% (n=83). Follow-up appointments 60% (n=26) (n=11), 100% (n=22) 20% (n=17). 2020, virtual implemented, 458% phone (n=1,329) compared (n=290). Conclusion Data show qualified nurses may improve pathways activities quality care. addition, motivation, satisfaction willingness continue perceived among nurses. collaboration between Hospital showed encouraging results be replicated similar contexts.
